  • Your sources are correct. The Christmas decorations at Walt Disney World do come down quite quickly after the new year.  The holiday overlay at the parks and resorts will come down on the January 3 and 4, and will be almost totally disassembled by the 5th.

The gingerbread creations at the resorts, particularly the large gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian, are magnificent, and possibly worth a special trip to the hotel just to see them. Since you will be at WDW on January 3, you could spend part of your day then bopping around to the hotels to see the last of the holiday decor. Toward the end of your trip, you won't have that opportunity.

If you're looking for additional information about the gingerbread creations at more of the hotels (I love the gingerbread carousel at the Beach Club), you might want to take a look at the independent website The December 8 post "Disney Foodie Decor: Walt Disney World Gingerbread Houses" gives the complete scoop on this year's gingerbread creations.  [Full disclosure: I took a few of the photos in that post, but that doesn't make me biased or anything :-).]

Have a wonderful trip to Walt Disney World!
