Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • We are visiting with our 10 year old who has type 1 diabetes and is registered disabled and I've been told he is entitled to fast track the queues - is that true, and if so how do I sort this out?

  • Hi Tracy,

Guests with special needs are able to acquire a Guest Assistance Card (GAC) which allows for easier access to many attractions. Wheelchair friendly boarding, reserved seating, and separate queues are some of the ways Walt Disney World accommodates handicapped visitors. A member of my immediate family has Type 1 diabetes, but we have never used a GAC because his condition does not prevent him from standing in line. Diabetes effects people in a variety of ways, however, so if your son is unable to stand in a typical queue you may want to consider obtaining a GAC. If you decide a GAC is needed for your son, visit Guest Services when you arrive at any theme park and a Cast Member will create a card that will fit your ten year old's needs.

Do pack snacks and juice in your park bag in case your son's blood sugar begins to drop. Glucose levels always seem to fall when no snack stands are in sight. Frequent monitoring of blood sugar numbers while visiting the parks is a must since you tend to eat differently, follow an atypical schedule, and walk more than usual. If you have any additional questions, please write me back.

    Enjoy your visit to Mickey!
