Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- DH, son 8, daughter 5 and self will be going to WDW Sept14-22. I made ALL dinner reservations & located all parade, special event & Magic Hours times. We want to let the magic take us away! Do I need to do more planning, or shall we create our own

- It sounds like you're in great shape for your trip -- and you've chosen a perfect time to visit. I wouldn't say you should do more heavy-duty planning. But I would try to stay in the loop for Disney information until your trip happens. There are several amazing websites that publish free weekly online newsletters offering Disney news and travel tips. I'm primarily thinking of allearsnet.com and passporter.com, but there are others too. I would consider subscribing to these, so that if something happens at Disney between now and your trip (ride closures or openings. resort refurbishments, restaurant menu changes, etc.), you'll be prepared. And, of course, you'll want to check in with the Moms Panel from time to time ;-)
I would also keep an eye out over the summer for discounts at home on things you might need for your trip. Stock up on sunscreen; prices are likely to be lower near you than at WDW. Also, if you see inexpensive plastic rain ponchos grab those; again, they will be cheaper at home than at WDW.
You can get your children prepared for the trip. Have them watch some of the Disney animated films (probably won't have to twist their arms for that) so they're familiar with all the characters they'll see. More importantly, have them watch some Disney travel information like the free planning DVD. This really gives them a good idea of what to expect on the trip. We also set our Tivo to automatically record shows with a keyword "Disney" and a subject of "travel." We've found lots of cool programs about imagineering and insider travel tips. My kids LOVE learning about how the rides are made. There are also several books you could find for your children. The Birnbaum's Kids Guide to Disney would be perfect for your 8-year-old.
But all of this is just the icing on the cake. Relax and enjoy your summer and look forward to your amazing trip.
