Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • My two children ages 12 and 9 and I are arriving on March 8, 2009 for our 1st visit to WDW. We are staying at the CBR and will get in Orlando around noon. What time would we get to our hotel and what should we spend our 1st day doing?

  • Hi, Jeanne!  How exciting that you are making your first trip to Walt Disney World!  I hope it's absolutely magical for you!

If you are flying into Orlando International Airport, from the time you leave the airplane, get your baggage, and get to the hotel, I would estimate about an hour and a half.  The ride from the airport is about 30 minutes, depending on traffic.  If you are driving, from the time you hit Orlando to the time you hit the front desk of the resort is about an hour.

As for what to do your first day, that will depend on a few things.  Do you have theme park tickets for each day of your stay?  If so, I would say head right over to the Magic Kingdom.  For us, it is the centerpiece of the entire vacation, and my kids usually can't wait to get there.

If you would rather not use a park ticket that day - and you may not if you've been up since very early in the morning - one of our favorite things to do is head to Downtown Disney.  There are so many things to see and do!  We'll stop and grab lunch at the Earl of Sandwich, then visit a few shops.  My almost 8 year old loves to go to the Lego playground area and build things, and my 17 year old likes to visit Basin and pick up a soap or two.  We usually end the trip with a quick stop at Ghiradelli's for a chocolate treat.

    Have a great trip!
