Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • So, we have been keeping our upcoming DIsneyWorld trip a secret from our 6&3 year old daughters, and it's killing us! We leave next Friday! but now that it's so close, what's the best way to tell them? They call it 'their surprise'!

  • Hi Robyn!

I got excited too just reading your question!  I totally know the feeling of keeping a surprise Walt Disney World vacation from your kids.  It's such sweet agony!

My husband and I have surprised our kids several times with vacations and below are some ideas from what we did:
    • Have a scavenger hunt! Make a list of different clues (pictures clues will do for your girl's ages). Have the last clue culminate by instructing the girls to push "play" on a video pre-loaded on your phone/computer/tablet. You and your husband will be on that video telling them about their big invitation to visit Mickey Mouse. The crazier you make your video the better.
    • Tell them that their surprise will be on SATURDAY. Then Friday just drive to the airport with their luggage secretly in the back. See how long it take them to notice they aren't going to their usual place. If they ask where they are going, tell them Daddy has to stop here get some papers from his friend Mr. Mickey.  When you finally arrive hand them Daddy's papers from Mr. Mickey ~ which is an special invitation to come and visit him.
    • Play a game with them Thursday evening called "I wish". Go around the family circle making wishes for things. You will be surprised how often kids will say they wish they could "go to Disney". If the kids don't suggest it, then have one of the adults suggest it. Once going to Disney has been suggested, then the other adult remember that you have some "Magic Wishing Pixie Dust" leftover from when you were a child (vial of glitter).  Blow it onto your wish and watch it come true.

There are so many creative ways to let your kids know they are "going to Disney". I hope you find one that speaks to your heart.

Blessings and Magic Wishing Pixie Dust!
