  • Hi Lorrie,

Disney's Polynesian Resort is my absolute favorite hotel! The fact that you'll be staying there for your first ever Disney vacation is so awesome!!

My family and I usually snag an early flight to Orlando as well, so I can definitely help you with some ideas on how to manage a late morning arrival.

After checking-in, we usually head around the corner to Captain Cook's for some lunch. The nice thing about this cool little cafe is that you don't need reservations and you can get your food pretty quickly. That'll be perfect if you have a child (or a husband like me) who gets hunger-induced crankiness after traveling.

After lunch, I'd recommend hanging around the hotel in the event your room becomes available a little early. Consider browsing shops in the Great Ceremonial House (the main building) or even taking a stroll around the grounds while you wait.

When I have a little spare time on my hands, I love visiting the marina and renting a boat for a cruise around the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. Most guests like to rent the little "water mouse" boats, however, I'm a fan of renting the larger pontoon boats. They're not as fast as the water mouse boats, but you can fit a whole bunch of people on board and have a really relaxing time.

Here's a bonus tip from your buddy Derek:

If you'd like to venture away from the hotel without visiting the theme parks, you can grab a bus to Downtown Disney and check out the shops and other experiences there. Then, you could just grab a bus from there that will take you directly to Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground for your dinner at the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue.

As my favorite TV chef would say, "How easy is that!"

I hope that helps! Please feel free to write back if you'd like any additional tips for your upcoming vacation and I'll be happy to help in any way that I can.

    Best regards,
