Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • My family will be visiting Disney World for Thanksgiving. We will be with another family with small children, but will not be with them all of the time. Our son is 17, what would be the best parks/attractions for us to visit with two adults and a teenager.

  • Colleen,

While Walt Disney World is fun for all ages, you are right to know that your teen will need time away from the small kids if he wants to have some more big kid fun in the parks.

When people travel with small kids, I tell them to visit the Magic Kingdom for 2 days or even 3 days for every 1 day each at the other three parks. But for a teen the mix is a bit different. Hollywood Studios is going to have a bigger draw for him, with the great thrill rides and stunt shows at the park. I would say 2 days at Hollywood Studios for every 1 day at the other three parks.

Of particular note, have him hit the thrill rides in the park (Tower of Terror, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, and Star Tours), as well as the two main stunt shows (Lights, Motors, Action! and the Indy Jones Stunt show).

That is not to say that the other parks have no fun for him. But he might enjoy a bit of park hopping, combining a morning at the Animal Kingdom (Expedition Everest and DINOSAUR), with an afternoon at Epcot (Test Track, MISSION: Space, Soarin'). And while the Magic Kingdom may seem geared for small kids, there is plenty for him to do there as well, hitting the three Mountain attractions (Space, Splash, and Big Thunder).

Write me back and tell me a bit about what else your son likes, and I can offer some more detailed suggestions!

    Have a magical vacation!
