Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • What are some Character Dining options for the days we are NOT in the parks? I see the Grand Floridian has characters at dinner. Do you know what characters? or know any other restaurant options? We are going end of august 2014. Thanks!!

  • Hello Brittany,

This sounds like a great plan. Why not enjoy some character fun even when you aren't in the parks that day! You are absolutely correct, 1900 Park Fare at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa does have a character dinner. At this dinner, Cinderella, Prince Charming, the Evil Stepmother and Stepsisters are there to meet guests. I have been to this one and it is lots of fun to see the sarcastic humor of the Stepmother and Stepsisters, but I will warn you that little ones might not find their sarcasm funny. So, keep this in mind if you have small children.

Another option that involves characters in addition to great food and dancing, is Mickey's Backyard Barbecue at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. This dinner show features Mickey and the gang in their hoedown best! The buffet features barbecue favorites such as ribs, chicken, hot dogs, corn on the cob and baked beans. My kids loved being able to dance around with some of their favorite characters. Keep in mind, though, that even though there are characters, they do not sign autographs at this dinner show and do not visit individual tables. However, there are still great opportunities for some fun interactions with them.

Lastly, there is Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort for dinner. This dining location is just under the monorail line which offers a fun perspective. This meal has a party feel to it and Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto are typically there to greet guests. This is a traditional character meal where each character meets with each table and signs autographs and poses for pictures. The buffet offers lots of kid favorites and if I remember correctly, there is a sundae bar with lots of toppings for a fun dessert!

Keep in mind that all characters are subject to change, but historically these are the ones present for these dinners. I hope you are able to find a super fun location for your day off from the parks.
