Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel
- We are planning to visit Animal Kingdom for the first time. My Mom has mobility issues. I have been told to avoid Animal Kingdom because you have to walk a long distance to really see the animals. Is this correct?

- Hi Angela,
Animal Kingdom is an awesome park! It is the largest of the 4 theme parks at WDW & there is a lot of walking involved. However, Disney is great at working with guests who have mobility issues. In fact, they devote a whole section on their website especially to assist guests with these types of problems - click here.
Your mom would probably benefit by renting a wheelchair to use at AK. I know that it may be difficult for your mom to agree to this - some people who don't use a wheelchair in their everyday lives may have a little bit of hard time accepting that they should use one at the theme parks. You may have to convince her that it will allow her to enjoy the park with you. If she's reluctant at first, try it without it & see how it goes. If she later sees that she would benefit from a wheelchair you could rent one later (if available - there are a limited number of each at the parks).
Wheelchairs are available for rent in all 4 of the theme parks. The Rental fees for wheelchairs in the theme parks is $15 per day or $13 per day if you purchase a Length of Stay rental if you plan on renting for more than a day (these are always subject to change without notice). Wheelchairs may not leave the park in which they were rented. If you park hop on any given day, retain your rental receipt to present at the next park to obtain another wheelchair (if available).
Some attractions allow guests to remain in their wheelchairs & others require guests to transfer. The link above will give you a list of attractions & their requirements at all of the theme parks. If you have any questions while in the park, be sure to speak to a Cast Member. People with all types of disabilities visit & enjoy Animal Kingdom every day so don't shy away from it - its a one of a kind adventure. Wishing you & your mom many magical memories :-)
