Answered Question - Disney Parks Moms Panel

  • I am looking to find out information about the best place to stay and what to do? I am trying to get my family together in 2014 (summer-fall). There would be 15 adults ranging from 21-85 and 3 kids from 1.5-4. I know I definately want to stay on site.

  • Kudos to you Kathy for starting your planning early. This is especially true when working with a large group as you will find challenges along the way trying to please all ages. But with early planning it will be easier and and more successful in all aspects from lodging to dining to entertainment. I planned our own family reunions for 16 for many, many years.

If at all possible I suggest taking a vacation either in September, October, or early November. Summer crowds are daunting and the heat and humidity can take a toll on everyone. September is still hot but the crowds are lower making it easier to handle.

Choosing your lodging is dependent on your budget. If you wish to keep the costs low then choose a Value resort. I love Pop Century in this category or the new Art of Animation family suites. In the moderate category I suggest Port Orleans French Quarter. It is a smaller resort with a quaint atmosphere and it is a boat ride away from Downtown Disney where you can find numerous dining opportunities as well as great shopping and entertainment. In the Deluxe category you can't go wrong with any of them and many choose according to the theme and location. If you want to be near the Magic Kingdom there are four great choices: Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Polynesian, and Wilderness Lodge. Then there are three choices close to Epcot and Hollywood Studios and those are Boardwalk, Beach Club, and Yacht Club resorts. For something very unique you can select the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Our family calls the Yacht and Beach "home" when returning.

You also have choices with the Villas at the various resorts. These are DVC properties that can open up to all Disney guests and you can book up to a two bedroom which is a super way for more to stay in one spot. They come with full kitchens and laundry which are also nice amenities. You can check the Disney website for location and descriptions.  Please let me know what I can do to help you plan as the time gets closer.
