I have a 4 yr old daughter and 6 yr old son and we are planning an Adoption Celebration Trip. We are looking to go sometime in Dec. or Jan. Need advice on where to stay and what parks to visit. Plan on being there 10 days! Thanks!

Congratulations! What a wonderful way to celebrate your new family.

If this is your first Disney vacation, I suggest you consider traveling in early-mid December, or in January (just avoid Martin Luther King weekend) to avoid most of the crowds.

I generally tell people to plan on at least two days each in Magic Kingdom and Epcot, and one day each in Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. Your 10 day trip will allow you plenty of time for that, and extra days to re-visit the fun! We typically visit for 10-14 days at a time so I think your plan sounds perfect!

Where to stay really depends on how much time you'd like to spend at your resort. At a value, things are pretty basic. This is where I'd stay if my budget were tight, and/or if I planned to be in the parks all day, spending very little time at my resort. I find these to all be pretty equivalent, so I'd choose based on which theme you liked the best.

The moderates bring a few more amenities, like slightly larger rooms, and pools with bells and whistles like waterslides, fountains, and larger play areas. Caribbean Beach is our family's favorite moderate, based largely on their very cool pirate themed rooms and their awesome, newly renovated pool. The pirate ship area for kids is like a mini splash park, which my young daughters loved.

The deluxe resorts offer the most amenities, from fine dining to kids' clubs, and they pay special attention to every tiny little detail. Each of the deluxe resorts has very special offerings - tours, activities for children, poolside games - and you'll find lots of smiling cast members ready to make magic in your day. But of course, all that luxury comes at a price. If you're staying at a deluxe, it should be because you plan to spend a great deal of time at your resort, taking advantage of all it has to offer.

    Have a great vacation!
