My 7 year old is terrified of animals. I was wondering what we should avoid in Animal Kingdom? If the animals can get close to her we will need to avoid it. Thanks

    Hi Hayley!

I think you can enjoy Animal Kingdom without too many worries! I can't think of any place where animals can get too close to you without you choosing to approach, but I'll give you some areas to consider.

Entrance to the park: After you enter the main gates of the park, you'll be heading through the Oasis on the way to the Tree of Life. There are animal exhibits along either side.  There may be birds in this area or even a handler with an animal (last trip we were able to view a rat - my kids were thrilled, me not so much!). These animals can't get near you unless you specifically choose to walk up to them.

Kilimanjaro Safaris - During this attraction you will be in a ride vehicle at all times. The animals are viewed from a distance while they are on the savannahs. Additionally, you can have your daughter sit in the center of the seat (4 to 5 people will fit across a seat).

Pangani Forest Trail & Maharajah Jungle Trek
are walking though exhibits where animals can be viewed. I don't think anything here is too troublesome as you can choose your distance.

Flights of Wonder - If you daughter is afraid of birds as well, I'd probably avoid this show. The birds do fly overhead and even land on a member of the audience. You never know when they may decide to fly your way!

Rafiki's Planet Watch - This area is focused on animal interaction & encounters. While she would need to choose to engage with the animals, it may be an area to skip.

And, lastly, Its Tough to be a Bug! - there are no live animals here, as it is 3-D show. However, my kids always found this to be fairly scary up until their tween years.

If you are in doubt on any of these, you could always experience it first without your daughter, since you will know her fears the best. Hope this helps!
