Hello. I have a 4 year old son who has been diagnosed with Autism. I have been skeptical about taking him to the parks. Does Disney offer anything for families with children with Autism. I would just love to take him with limited disasters. Thanks, Mary

    Welcome Mary ~

As a Mom to a son with special needs, I completely understand your challenges. The Walt Disney World Resort is committed to assisting Guests with all of types of special needs including those with autism. They have put together A Resource for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) available online by clicking on the link above. That will give you some great information to help you before and during your trip.

You can request Disability Access Service (DAS) by visiting Guest Relations at any of the four theme parks. Cast Members will ask you some questions to best accommodate your son's specific needs. You won't be required to provide any type of supporting documentation. Here is a link with details explaining how DAS works.

I suggest making advanced dining reservations and FastPass+ selections as soon as possible. That will cut down on your wait times. Bring any comfort items including electronics. Headphones or ear plugs help keep the noise level down. If your son becomes anxious, remember to relax, and remove him from the situation until he calms down. There are quiet places in the parks to give him a break. A suggested list is provided on the link above or ask the nearest Cast Member. If you see that he has had enough, pack it up and head back to your resort. You may not get to do everything on this trip but you can make the most of everything you do.

I'm limited in space but please feel free to visit again. Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
