Can my 4 1/2 year old ride “in my lap” on the single rider water slides with no height at Blizzard or Typhoon? He has had swim lessons, and he is pretty mature for 4, but he has never been down water slides alone before. I worry if he gets flipped over

Hi, Katherine! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

You and your little one will love both Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. Both Water Parks have lots of options for kids of any height, and both have a dedicated area just for little ones 48” tall and under.

At Blizzard Beach you’ll find Tike’s Peak and at Typhoon Lagoon there’s Ketchakiddiee Creek. Each of these areas has lifeguards on duty, various attractions for kids to explore and lots of seating available for parents. In addition to these dedicated kids’ areas, you’ll find multiple attractions your son can enjoy along with you.

Few of the smaller slides are “body slides,” so each of you would ride on your own tube for attractions like Cool Runners in Blizzard Beach’s Ski Patrol Training Camp or Keelhaul Falls at Typhoon Lagoon. In those cases, I typically like to go first, so I’m already at the bottom of the slide when my daughter comes through. (There’s a lifeguard at the top of each slide who will make sure riders are properly seated in their tube before they launch.) You can also have your son wear one of the complimentary life jackets available at both of the Water Parks as well, but in my experience none of the “Any Height” attractions have been intense enough for a rider to flip. When my daughter was younger and first visited the Water Parks, I was concerned about her going under water in the pools at the bottom of each slide, but the ever-watchful life guards set my mind at ease.

If this is your son’s first Water Park experience, I would definitely recommend walking around the Parks and watching Guests as they come off of the slides. Once I saw kids who were almost half my daughter’s height exiting slides with huge smiles, I knew they would be good to try.

Hopefully these tips will help you and your son have a fabulous visit to the Water Parks at Walt Disney World Resort, Katherine! Please let us know if there are any additional questions we can answer for you.
