Hi.... I have a 2, 3 and 5 year old.  Would you recomend Mickey's Backyard BBQ or the Spirit of Aloha show?  We'll be there in September.  Thanks

For preschool aged children I would strongly recommend Mickey's Backyard BBQ over the Spirit of Aloha Luau.

There is very little interactivity in the Luau. There is one small part where children may go on stage to learn a few hula dance moves. But most of the show is sedentary for the guests, who will need to sit quietly for an hour to watch the performance. The various Polynesian dances performed are interesting, but perhaps somewhat repetitive for a child. Additionally, there is one fire-juggling act that truly scared one of my daughters when she was four. (Granted, she was certainly on the wimpy side, but she's not the only child I've heard of with this reaction.)

On the other hand, Mickey's Backyard BBQ is all about the kids getting up to move. Disney characters are there and will get out on the floor and dance with them for nearly the entire event. Some children may be able to dance an entire song with Mickey Mouse holding their hand. The food is very child-friendly: hot dogs, mc 'n cheese, and corn on the cob. Even the dessert is more child-friendly at the BBQ. At the Luau, the dessert for children and adults is a chocolate mousse with a raspberry sauce. At the BBQ, the dessert is novelty ice cream bars, just like they serve in the parks!

    Hope this helps.
