Hi - My 5 year old really wants to do the Star Wars ride. Should we use a fast pass + selection on Star Wars or is the wait bearable if we arrive at park opening and head right there. In other words, is it smarter to use our fast pass + choice elsewhere?

    Hi Frances,

If Star Wars is tops on your son's list, then by all means, I would use one of my three FastPass+ reservations for the ride. I always try to use my FastPasses for rides or attractions I know I will be disappointed to miss.

There are some rides where you always know the line is going to be long and a FastPass is a must (Toy Story Midway Mania! for one. I highly recommend you use one of your choices for that.) The other most popular rides and attractions at Hollywood Studios, i.e. the ones with the longest waits, are Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Tower of Terror and Fantasmic.

Star Wars is a little harder to predict. The wait often is 15 minutes or less, but it can be an hour. I would probably book a FastPass+ for a little later in the day and still plan to arrive early to beat the traffic. That way, perhaps he can get in at least two turns on the ride, which has more than 50 variations. It's seldom the same twice.

The independent site TouringPlans.com predicts wait times daily. It forecasts that the wait for Star Tours will be 20 minutes or less during the first days of your visit with the lines getting longer by Christmas Eve. You can use that as a guide to help you decide what a reasonable wait is.

While we are on the subject of Star Wars, do you know about the Jedi Training Academy, also at Hollywood Studios? It sounds like your son is a perfect candidate. Again, the best way to be sure you can participate is to arrive before the park opens and head to the sign-ups right away.

I hope I've been helpful. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you as you make your final plans. You are so close to the Walt Disney World fun now. Enjoy!
