Can my 80 year old father wait in RS spot while we wait in line and then board the ride with us

Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Cindy!
The Rider Switch program is a great opportunity for family members to ride an attraction, while an adult stays behind with non-rider(s). All guests in a party are typically encouraged to enter the attraction together to ask the Cast Member for a Rider Switch Pass. The pass goes to the person(s) who will be waiting in a designated Rider Switch area. When the first group is done, the second adult, in this case your father, would present the Rider Switch Pass and go on the ride, avoiding long wait times.
The idea here is that, while guests will have to ride at different times, they won't miss the attraction experience!
Now, if your father requires help getting around, check with guest services to see if he qualifies for one of many services for people with disabilities at the Disneyland Resort.
    I hope this helps!
    Have a Magical trip!
