I have an 8 year old daughter with Cerebral Palsy, who has trouble sitting up on her own. Would she be able to be carried on some rides and lean up against me or would she only be able to go on rides where she can stay in her wheelchair?

    Hi Camille ~

Thank you so much for coming to me. I know from experience that we want our little ones to enjoy as much as they possibly can. My son can sit unassisted but doesn't have great core strength or balance so he often ends up leaning on me. If you can transfer your daughter out of her wheelchair, you can take her on attractions without it. Some attractions required Guests to transfer from wheelchairs.

You know your daughter and her abilities better than anyone. Here are some things to keep in mind. Cast Members are not permitted to assist you when you are transferring her into an attraction vehicle. They will take her wheelchair after you have transferred her and will have it waiting for you when you return but cannot help you lift her.

They can slow down or stop most (not all) of the moving sidewalks to assist you if you need additional time. They cannot slow down or stop Peter Pan's Flight or the PeopleMover. Take your time and don't feel rushed. There are some attractions that jerk you around a bit so keep her head control in mind on those.

My son is very small for his age, but if you are in the parks without another adult to help you lift your daughter boarding attractions, it can wear you out physically. You may want to take advantage of those attractions where she can remain in her wheelchair and keep her in it. Here is some information regarding attractions for Guests with Mobility Disabilities including those that allow Guests to remain in their wheelchairs and those that require Guests to be mobile to enjoy.

There is nothing like the feeling of riding attractions next to your kids with your arms around them so go for it and have an awesome time.

Let me know if you have additional questions. I'm hEAR to help you!

Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
