So my 12 year old daughter just broke her leg. She has a full leg cast and has to be on crutches while we are on our Disney cruise. Will we need to alert a crew member and is there anything we can do to make it easier for her?

Hello Rachel!  Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

I am sorry to hear that your daughter has broken her leg.  I hope she is as comfortable as can be and heals quickly!  I am glad to hear she is able to get around and can still join Captain Mickey on your upcoming sailing.

When traveling with someone with mobility concerns, it is a good idea to let the Disney Cruise Line staff know in advance.  This can be done with a phone call ahead of your arrival or during check-in at the cruise terminal.  This will alert cast members so they are aware and in the event of an emergency can provide assistance if needed.

It may be a good idea to check the distance of your stateroom to elevator access to limit the amount of travel for her to navigate to onboard activities and meals.  If you are far from an elevator bank, you could also contact Disney Cruise Line to see if another stateroom closer to these main access areas is available.  You could also submit a request be assigned a table close to the dining room entrances to minimize her walk in for dinner.  Disney Cruise Line cannot guarantee availability of seating locations, but will try to honor your request if possible.

Another option if you are concerned about her walking on the cast is to rent a wheelchair.  There are medical supply companies that will rent wheelchairs for usage while on a cruise.  A quick search of local medical supply locations near your port should return a few options.

Finally, review any scheduled Port Adventures to identify if accessibility may interfere with the experience.  If you are unsure, stop by the Port Adventures desk while onboard and they can help review this with you and schedule alternate Port Adventures if needed.

Sending healing thoughts for your daughter!  Enjoy making magical memories.  Angie
