Is it worth it to stay in the Disney hotels when visiting Disneyland?

Hi there, Troy, and thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

Staying at the Disneyland Resort Hotels is a truly magical experience! All three Disneyland Resort Hotels offer ideal location, ambiance, and hospitality to make your vacation a memorable experience. Plus, as a Resort Hotel Guest, you’ll even receive the benefit of Extra Magic Hour, an early-admission option, for every day of your hotel stay. You’ll have the chance to enjoy select attractions, stores, and entertainment in Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure Park one hour before the park open to the general public. Currently, the Extra Magic Hour schedule for Disneyland Park is Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, while it’s Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, for Disney California Adventure Park.

All three Resort Hotels also offer Character Dining experiences. At the Disneyland Hotel, you’ll love laughing with Goofy and friends inside Goofy’s Kitchen. In Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, you’ll embark on an epic adventure at Mickey’s Tales of Adventure Breakfast Buffet at Storytellers Café. The brand-new Disney Princess Breakfast Adventure is also found at this hotel, inside Napa Rose. At Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, surf on over to Donald Duck’s Seaside Breakfast at Disney’s PCH Grill.

In addition, the Resort Hotels have so many fun activities and features that are sure to delight young Mouseketeers (and those who are young at heart!). The Monorail water slides at the Disneyland Resort keep my children busy for hours! And the Redwood Pool at the Grand Californian features a 90-foot-long slide that curves around the stump of a giant redwood tree – how cool is that?!

There are also some convenient perks that come along with staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel. For example, there’s no need to lug around your Disney souvenirs all day – instead, you can send packages directly to the hotel! During your transaction, you’d alert the Cast Member, who would make the arrangements to have your purchase sent to your hotel at no extra charge. Your merchandise could then be picked up at the hotel’s Bell Services desk after 7:00 AM the next day.

In addition, your Key to the Magic card, which you receive upon check-in, can be used to enter your room, make Resort charges, and act as your parking permit.

So, if it fits within your budget, I highly recommend booking a reservation at a Disneyland Resort Hotel. If those hotels don’t fit within your budget, I recommend searching here to find a Disney-approved hotel close to the Disneyland Resort that fits your needs. Many of these are within walking distance, so you don’t have to worry about driving from your hotel to the theme parks.

No matter where you stay, you’re going to make so many special memories at the Happiest Place on Earth!

    See ya’ real soon!

Meet the Panelist: Kristin, California

Hello from sunny California! I currently live less than an hour from the Disneyland Resort, and have been an Annual Passholder for about 20 years! As a mom of three kids under the age of 7, I consider myself an expert at navigating the Disneyland Resort with little ones. My family of five can’t get enough of the magic and happiness we encounter every time we step foot on Main Street, U.S.A. I look forward to sprinkling pixie dust on your next visit to “The Happiest Place on Earth!”
