Teens on attractions

Hello! I was wondering if my 14 year old son can do ALL the rides completely my himself. Some of the rides he wants to do are too thrilling for me (Ex. Tower of Terror) and I would like to know if he can do it alone.

Hey, Karen, and welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Thanks for "dropping in" with your question. Time to help your young thrill-seeker have a blast at the Walt Disney World Resort!

Karen, I'm totally with you on some of the more adrenaline-fueled attractions out there. I always say the only way I'd ever get on The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror would be if there were a million dollars waiting for me at the end of it...and even then, I may have to think about it! I'll happily go shopping while the rest of my crew braves all those drops.

That said, I have some news that will make your son really happy. Disney's Park Rules & Regulations say that all Guests must be age seven or older to board an attraction without an adult, provided they meet the height requirement for that ride. At 14, your son is definitely old enough to ride solo on any attraction he likes. In fact, according to Disney's policy, a 14-year-old is old enough to enter a Theme Park unaccompanied as well. So feel free to let your son hit all of those thrill rides!

Karen, if you'd prefer to stay with your son in the queue rather than heading off on your own while he waits to board, most of the more high-octane attractions have what some folks call a "chicken exit." On The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, for example, there's a separate elevator that goes back down to the ride exit where you can wait for your son while he rides the attraction. Trust me on this one - I've proudly ridden that chicken elevator right back down to safety!

I hope this helps both you and your son have fun on your Walt Disney World vacation, Karen. Now, would you care to join me for a little shopping while we wait for our friends and family to finish that terrifying ride?

    Keep Disney Dreaming,

    Kathy K.

I've lived my whole life just an hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so I've been a regular visitor for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
