Wondering about Rider Swap and FP+...Does my daughter who won't want to ride the 7 Dwarfs Mine Train require a FP+ to stand in line with us? Also, do I need one to stand in line with her to meet the characters? I don't plan on interacting just watching.

Heigh ho Susan, and welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

My husband and I are big fans of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at the Magic Kingdom Park, but our 5-year-old son is still skeptical. Luckily, Disney's Rider Switch has come to our rescue every time.

Rider Switch is great for parents who otherwise might miss certain attractions because of a child who is too small or is unwilling to ride. And using it in conjunction with FastPass+ is a great idea, too, but there are differing opinions on the best way to do it. As a general rule, everyone in your party is required to have FastPass+ for an attraction to enter the FastPass+ line. A Cast Member may let your child enter without FastPass+ if you explain that you're using Rider Switch, but we usually go ahead and use one of our son's three selections for this ride anyway, for a couple of reasons. First, your child might surprise you and decide to ride. Our son isn't there yet, but one day he will be, and we'll be ready!

Secondly, if you make FastPass+ selections for everyone in your party except your daughter, she'll have an extra one. It seems you're thinking to use that extra FastPass+ on a character meet for her, but you would also need to have a FastPass+ selection to accompany her in line. Including her in your Seven Dwarfs Mine Train FastPass+ also ensures that everyone in your party can make additional selections after you've used your initial three choices.

I hope this helps you in your planning, Susan. Please stop back by if you have any more questions. Wishing you and your family a magical Walt Disney World vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Kathy, Florida

I've lived my whole life just an hour's drive from Walt Disney World, so I've been a regular visitor for as long as I can remember. Even after all these years and so many visits, I love that there's still so much to discover! Now that I'm a mom myself, seeing my favorite place through my son's eyes has given me a whole new perspective that I enjoy sharing with other parents of young children. Learn More About Kathy
