Hello! Wondering if you can help me understand the "charge" portion of the magic bands. Can we put cash or gift cards on our magic band or do you need a credit card.? Grandma is traveling with us can she have her own money on just her own ban

    Hi Michelle,

A key point about using your park ticket or MagicBand for food/merchandise charging is that everyone staying in the same room must use the same payment method. There is no way to have Mom charge items to her card and Grandma to charge items to a different card if they're staying in the same room.

My daughter recently visited Walt Disney World with two friends. They decided not to have any charging privileges on their MagicBands to avoid the confusion of figuring out who bought what and reimbursing each other. You don't have to have Band charging activated if it makes things easier for you. Nearly all food and merchandise locations take cash, credit cards, debit cards, and Disney Gift Cards as payment.

To answer your first question - if you do want to have MagicBand room charging activated, you can do this by securing the charges in a number of methods. You can leave a credit or debit card on file. You can also activate MagicBand charging with cash, Disney Gift Cards, travelers checks, or Disney Dollars. All work equally well.

You can also set a charging limit for the room, so that you don't go over a certain payment amount.

Additionally, you can choose to activate or deactivate the charging capabilities for any specific people in the room. Typically a family will deactivate charging for small children, but you could also deactivate grandma so that she is "forced" to use another payment mode and not mingle her purchases with yours.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
