My wife and two children (ages 7 and 5) usually go at Christmas time. My question deals with the dining plan. I have heard positive and negative things about it. Can you please let me know if you think it is worth it or not and why or why not? Thanks!!

I'm a real analytic and have done the math myself before every trip.  With the recent changes, I believe it makes most sense for a family who appreciates dessert and is content eating a snack for breakfast, counter service for lunch, and a sit-down meal for dinner.  My family tends to eat at a lot of character buffets.  When we do eat at a counter service location we're happy with a sandwich and a bottle of water.  The dining plan gives you a dessert, but if I was paying I wouldn't get dessert.  We usually use the snack credits for a beverage or a bag of popcorn.  I believe, in 2008, my family would break even on the dining plan.  I wish I saved more money on it, but I still get it for the sheer convenience.  Its nice having everything paid for in advance.

My recommendation would be to look at the menus online at allears.net and try to come up with a day or two of typical meals and see if you would be ahead or behind.  The prices they list are completely unoffical and you should be aware that they may not be 100% accurate, but I usually assume they're mostly on target.
