Hello my wife and I are planning a trip to Walt Disney World the day after Thanksgiving, is this a good time to go to avoid crowds or should I wait till after the Thanksgiving weekend.

    Hi James!

I love traveling with my family at Thanksgiving time as it is an easy time to get kids our of school without missing a ton of days and it is a special time in the parks and resorts. Thanksgiving marks the time to begin the celebration of the Christmas holidays and the parks and resorts will be all decked out in their holiday finery.

The Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving have traditionally been the two busiest days of the week. Local fans as well as those who fly in are in the parks to enjoy having their family together for some Disney magic. I suggest you wait and arrive on Sunday which is the day that most will be departing. Check-in could take a little longer while the housekeeping staff catches up with cleaning rooms but if you are not in a hurry it is a great check-in day.

It used to be I could tell you that the first week of December was a slow time at Walt Disney World but I cannot really find a single week of the year that the statement is true anymore. Guests come from far and wide and even if there is not a holiday involved you will find some crowds.

To make your vacation as magical as possible be sure to make some Advanced Dining Reservations, open your My Disney Experience Account, and be ready to select your FastPass experiences for the vacation. Mark your calendar for the first possible date to do these things and plan away. No matter what time of year you come it is best to have planned well to enjoy a stress free time!
