Why doesn't the Disney Cruise have a helicopter pad? Our cruise had to be diverted to Turks and Caicos for a medical emergency. The diversion took about 4 hours. We were not able to go to Castaway Cay because of it. Thanks!

    Hi, Loreen,

What you experienced on your Disney cruise is a complete aberration of the norm. I not only feel so incredibly sorry for all those who experienced that interruption to such a long-anticipated and well-deserved vacation, but my heart goes out to that poor family who obviously had the worst time of all by experiencing an unavoidable medical emergency while at sea.

Anytime you have such a large amount of people together, there are many variables which can change what was anticipated, and any time expectations aren't met, there is sure to be some level of disappointment.  I'm sorry that you were disappointed, but I'm sure you understand that the best decisions were made in this situation.

Because this rarely occurs, I'm sure to have a helicopter pad on board would be somewhat of a waste of space. Plus, as my brother who is a helicopter instructor pilot for the Army will tell you...it's quite risky to land a bird on a ship at sea.

I hope my "unofficial" attempt at trying to explain the situation and console you has helped you see another perspective, and I truly am sorry that you weren't able to visit Castaway Cay. My hope is that one day you'll return and soak up all the fun, sun and relaxation available at that beautiful port of call. Let me know if I can be of further assistance to you. I'm here to help!
