On a whim my daughter(13) and I are taking a Cali trip and are wanting to hit up Disneyland for our Saturday. What are the "must see" or "have to do" for our single day trip? also any money saving tips or tricks would be appreciated.

If you are arriving between now and March 31, please click here for more information.

    Hi there, Carly!

We too have enjoyed taking impromptu trips to The Happiest Place on Earth from Utah. Just last Summer we decided at the last minute to make family memories during a day at the Disneyland Resort before the start of the school year.

Of course, Disneyland Resort has more magic than can be experienced in just one day. While everyone may have their own preferences, here are some experiences that my family finds especially enjoyable when we visit the Disneyland Resort:

    • When visiting "Walt Disney's Original Magic Kingdom," I find it essential to experience some of the wonderful original 1955 attractions. Some of our favorites are Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Mad Tea Party, and Jungle Cruise.
    • Mere steps from Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park holds some of our family favorites. My favorite lands to enjoy, especially after dark, are Cars Land and Pixar Pier. Check your smartphone or ask a Cast Member when sunset will occur, marking the time of day to experience the iconic "Sh-boom" moment in Cars Land. Our family's favorite scene of Radiator Springs Racers is the moment the waterfall comes into view, just like from the Disney•Pixar movie Cars.
    • If you are fans of stories set in a galaxy far, far away, you simply must see Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the latest attraction to be added to Disneyland Park, is the most mind-blowing experience you can imagine in a theme park experience. It is extremely popular and guests may be required to join a Boarding Group. So be sure to show up early, even before park opening, to be able to join an available Boarding Group.
    • There are far more entertainment options than can be enjoyed in a single day. You may choose from fireworks, parades, stage shows, and more. I recommend choosing one or two big experiences to enjoy. Some of our favorites include Fantasmic!, Mickey and the Magical Map, and the new "Magic Happens" Parade.
    • Dining reservations at the Disneyland Resort may usually be made up to 60 days in advance. Sometimes last-minute reservations can be hard to come by. So we like to visit some of our favorite quick-service restaurants, including Smokejumpers Grill, Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante, and Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe.

Tony's Tip: To help fill your day at the Disneyland Resort with even more magic, I recommend purchasing Disney MaxPass to add on to your theme park tickets. MaxPass can help you make Disney FASTPASS selections more frequently and easily from the convenience of your mobile device.

I hope you have a magical time at the Disneyland Resort, Carly. If you have any more questions for us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel, I hope you will stop by again soon.
