We will have our 6 week old son (we had already paid for the trip when we found out we were having an addition, and it is for my daughters 5th birthday, so we did not want to upset her). Any suggestions on traveling with such a young one?

    Hi Lauren,

Congratulations on the new addition to your family, and to your daughter for her 5th birthday!  !

I found that with the babies it was very important to stick to our general routine as much as possible.  All of the Parks offer Baby Care Centers with diaper changing stations, food prep & feeding areas, and quiet and calm rooms for nursing and/or rocking your baby to sleep.  I found it very peaceful to nurse and rock baby to sleep while everyone else continued playing in the parks.  I have some very sweet and precious memories of those times!

You can rent a stroller, but for one that small, I highly recommend bringing your own stroller to the parks.  They will be much safer and more comfortable for one so small.  You will also want to be well-prepared by pre-packing your diaper bag with the essentials.  You know what your baby needs...so make sure you have it all, and have extras!

Also, be aware of the weather and prepare ahead of time.  If it will be cool, pack extra layers of clothing and blankets.  If it will be sunny, make sure you provide shade (since ones so young should not use sunscreen yet), and if it will be rainy, take a waterproof cover for the stroller.  Make sure you provide adequate hydration if it is going to be very hot!  Also, keep in mind that in the summer most of the attractions are air conditioned and quite cool, so an extra blanket is helpful even in the hottest months.

Keep in mind the "Baby Swap" option when riding rides.  This will allow you to take turns riding with your older child on the rides in which the baby cannot accompany you, without having to stand through the line twice.

Most of all, protect your baby during this early stage, when they are most susceptible to germs, etc...  Use your instincts - you know what is best for your children!  And of course, have a magical & memorable vacation!
