Our 3rd WDW trip is in Aug and we have used our ME luggage tags to have our bags sent to right the hotel for the past 2 trips. I saw a question from Canada earlier and it stated we couldn't use the tags. Can you help clarify this for me? Thanks

    Hi Laureen!

It is a little confusing because the correct answer really depends on the details. Our responses are limited in length, so sometimes some of the important details get lost. All international travelers to the United States have to clear US Customs. Usually, that take places at your point of entry into the United States, which on a direct flight to Orlando, would be Orlando International Airport.

However, there are exceptions for the major cities in Canada, such as Montreal and Toronto. On a flight from a major Canadian city, you basically "pre-clear" US Customs before you leave Canada. If you take off from a small city and then connect in Montreal, for example, then you would also pre-clear US Customs in Montreal.

So basically there are two cases:
    1. You pre-clear US Customs while still in Canada.  In this case, you put your Disney's Magical Express luggage tags on and when you land in Orlando, you simply proceed to the DME Welcome Center.  Your luggage will be picked up by the DME staff and magically transported to your hotel room.  You basically land in the domestic flight area of the airport and you are treated the same as if you just flew in from New York or any other US city.
    2. You have to clear US Customs in Orlando.  In this case, you still put your DME luggage tags on in Canada!  However, when you land in Orlando, you will be in an international area and not a domestic area; you will have to claim your luggage and then go through US Customs. Then you have two choices:  you can keep your luggage with you and show up with your luggage at the DME Welcome Center. Or you can immediately drop your luggage off with airport personnel while still in the international area, but after clearing customs, and your luggage will then be sent over to DME.In this case, you walk to the Welcome Center empty handed and your luggage will show up in your hotel room later.

    I hope this helps!
