Going to WDW for 1st time and w/5yr old son for 3 days and staying offsite. Can we still partake in the Chip n Dale campfire, monarail, boats, etc. Have been reading and getting lots of ideas, thanks.

    Angel:

You've just listed several "gems" at Disney that don't cost you a thing, but certainly create memorable experiences for the whole family, regardless of whether you're a resort guest or not!

One of our family's favorite activities is Chip 'n' Dale's Campfire Singalong. It's the one time I can sing out loud and my kids aren't embarrassed!  Best of all, it's free and open to any guest. You can get to Fort Wilderness by taking the last car lane to the right through the Magic Kingdom gate. Non-resort guests park in the outer parking lot and take an internal bus (I recommend the Settlement Yellow Line to the 1500 Loop stop). After the campfire, consider walking down to the fort's pier for the water pageant at 9:40 p.m. and the Magic Kingdom fireworks!

All of the ferry boats and of course, the monorail, are also free. These are rides to themselves according to my boys. Because our family typically will visit Fort Wilderness without going to the theme parks, I recommend making a full day of your fort visit. Rent a canoe or bike; take a tour of the stables; order a bucket of take-out chicken from Trail's End and if you need to kill time before the campfire, take one of the ferry boats on a round-trip ride over to Magic Kingdom or The Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge for a self-tour!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
