Hi - we are going to wdw for the 1st time next wk (9/21) and we are on the dining plan. I worry that the counter service meals will not be healthy. Is there any healthy counter service meals or places where we can get salads?

Hi Susan! How exciting that your first Disney World vacation is just a week away! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at many of the counter-service dining options. While there's certainly no shortage of the traditional fast food options such as pizza, chicken fingers and burgers, there are lots of healthy options available too. The Quick-Service restaurants in the resorts usually offer salads, fresh fruit, and even sushi. (On my last Disney vacation, I had a Lobster Cobb Salad at the Grand Floridian counter-service restaurant!).

The Quick-Service restaurants in the parks also have healthy options available. Epcot, especially, has quite a bit of variety on the Quick-Service menus. Sunshine Seasons in The Land in Epcot has lots of fresh entrees and salads available. At the Magic Kingdom, Columbia Harbour House, has salad as well as a vegetable sandwich and other entrees. At Animal Kingdom, you might enjoy the offerings at Flame Tree Barbecue, which has a salad and a fruit plate on the menu.  I recommend that you check out the unofficial website www.AllEars.net, which has sample menus for every Disney counter-service restaurant listed so you can find some options in each park that appeal to your family. (You'll find the menus on the AllEars.net site by clicking Walt Disney World, then Dining and then Menus on the left side of the page.)

Have a magical first vacation to Walt Disney World! Come visit us again at the Moms Panel if you have more questions! We'd love to help!
