Going to WDW for the first time in April 2010 with 3 and 5yo boys who are not used to such long, and what I've been told, intense trips. We are planning to stay a week with 7day park hopper. Want it to be memorable and worth airfare. Are we overdoing it?

    Hi Heather,

Your family must be so excited for their first Walt Disney World vacation!  Hopefully, this will be the first of many.

Disney World is roughly the size of Manhattan, and it is full of theme parks, restaurants, resorts, shopping and other attractions.  So, yes, it can seem a little "intense" -- especially if you try to see it all -- but it doesn't have to be that way.  I think the fact that you are spending an entire week will actually help you slow things down a bit.

Don't try to see everything in this one vacation.  A lot of families make the mistake of staying in the park from opening to closing in order to justify the cost of admission.  At the end of they day, the children are whiny, the parents have no patience, and everyone is exhausted.

I recommend spending the morning in a park.  If your little boys are early risers, take advantage of extra magic hours.  You'll see a lot in that one hour before the regular guests are allowed in the park.  Stay until around lunch time.  Then head back to your resort to get out of the heat and rest.  Even if your children are beyond the napping stage, some downtime at the pool or in your resort room will help rejuvenate all of you.

After a rest, you'll be ready to spend the evening in another park.  You may even want to spend one evening shopping and exploring Downtown Disney.  Visit Goofy's Candy Company to make your own special treats, play at the Lego Imagination Center and maybe even take a ride on Characters in Flight, a tethered balloon that takes you soaring 300 feet in the air for a spectacular view.

Most of all, relax and take in the magic.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!
