    Andrea Asked

Hi WDW Mom's and Dad's panel! I'm returning from Afghanistan and I'm taking my Son and Mom for our first trip to WDW and I'm trying to determine how much spending money I should bring? We're going during the busiest time of the year which is 5-12 July.

Andrea, Thank you, thank you, thank you for your dedication to our country and all you do to protect it. I am beyond words expressing my gratitude to you and your fellow service men and women. What better way to celebrate your homecoming than a trip to Walt Disney World. You are sure to enjoy the comfort and love of your family while experiencing the magic of this place!

Now, on to your question. This can be a pretty debated question and can offer a wide spectrum of answers because everybody's budget is different. I am not sure if your plans include a dining plan. If they do, this can save you quite the hassle of trying to figure out how much you would like to spend on individual meals/snacks. Keep in mind, though, that the Disney Dining Plans do not include gratuities or alcoholic beverages ($20-$25/day for tips is what I like to budget for these). If you are not on the dining plan, then expect to spend around $50-$100 per adult/day and $25-$50 per child/day depending on whether you will be doing quick service or table service meals (or a combination of both) as this affects that number quite a bit.

As far as other expenses for souvenirs or extra necessities that might come up like needing rain ponchos, sunscreen, snacks, stroller rentals, etc, my family usually budgets between $30-$40 per person/day. Obviously, this could be more or less based on your spending expectations. Some budget one or two souvenirs per person for the whole trip, while others are more lenient with their spending. So, you would need to use your judgement on how you want to handle this. Now, while the time of year will affect the crowd levels, it shouldn't affect your budget as menu pricing and souvenirs don't tend to increase in price just because it is a busy time of year!

May you have a magical time and cherish those small moments being spent together as I am sure you have missed your family and vice versa during your time in Afghanistan.
