Hello WDW moms and dad. On average, how much would you estimate a counter service meal to be (adult meal and a child's meal)? I know it depends where you go and what you pick but I'm trying to get an idea how much money we may need for our trip. Thanks!!

I like to plan our budget ahead of time too. I even have a spreadsheet that I keep which includes estimated expenses for each meal.

If you go to the Dining section at allearsnet.com, you’ll find menus listed for even the counter service restaurants at WDW. You can also use your search engine, type in “allearsnet menus” and click on the first link! I find these menus to be the greatest resource for budgeting our meals. Print them out and ask your family what they think they might order. It’ll give you a nice estimate of your expenses.

For an example, if you were going to dine at Cosmic Ray’s in the Magic Kingdom, a February 2008 menu lists burgers at $6-8. These burgers are served with apple slices or fries and include the complimentary toppings bar. Beverages will add on another $2 or so. A child’s meal at Cosmic Ray’s would cost $4.49 and include nuggets, mixed greens salad with chicken or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, 2 side items (choice of grapes, applesauce or carrot sticks) and a drink (choice of 1% milk, bottled water or apple juice). Usually kids can substitute fries or a soft drink.

I would figure $8-10 per adult and about $5 per child.

    Cost savings tips:
I almost always order my meal from the children’s menu at counter service restaurants. I’m a picky eater, it’s just the right amount of food and it includes a drink.

Order an adult meal for 2 children: cut everything in half and the kids can share.

Start the day with your own water bottles. Ask for free ice water at the counter service restaurants.
