Wanting to take my 11 year old daughter to Disney for the first time. What are some age appropriate things for us to do ? Also what is the best time of the year to go ? Any suggestions would be great!

    Hi Jan,

No matter what the age, seeing the magic of this place for the first time is truly unforgettable. Here are my suggestions for her depending on her personality and interests:
    • For the thrill seeker - All of the roller coasters are a blast including Expedition Everest, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, and Test Track. Another great extra experience outside of the parks is parasailing at Sammy Duvall's Watersports Centre at Disney's Contemporary Resort. I have done this several times and it is a truly unique activity with awesome views of the resort, as well as, Magic Kingdom.
    • For the adventurer and inquisitive - Wilderness Explorers at Disney's Animal Kingdom or Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom are both fantastic interactive activities in both parks that offer a way to see those parks in a whole new way. Both are included in the price of admission and are completely done at your own pace.
    • For the princess at heart - Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom is the place to be. Be sure to visit Princess Fairytale Hall to meet some of her favorite princesses. You can dine at either Cinderella's Royal Table or at Be Our Guest Restaurant. Don't forget to catch Wishes, the nighttime fireworks spectacular with Cinderella's Castle in view.
    • For the kid at heart - Just about everything else is waiting for her to explore. Be sure to catch the Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom, eat a classic Mickey Bar ice cream treat, and meet the big cheese himself, Mickey!

As for time to visit, the least crowded times do typically occur when school is in session. For example, the end of January and beginning of February are great times to visit, as well as the week after Thanksgiving, before the holiday crowds begin later in the month. Spring Break is usually the craziest time to go. I hope this helps get you started.

    Have fun,
    ~Allison L
