I was wanting my little girl to spend her 3rd birthday at WDW, but that falls at the end of January! Will the weather be ok to take a 3 year old then?

Hi, Jennifer! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

January is actually my absolute favorite time to visit Walt Disney World. I find the weather a delightful relief from our harsh Wisconsin winters. I see you are from Arkansas, so you may find it a bit chilly to walk around in the parks. We were comfortable in long pants and sweatshirts during the morning and evening hours and usually took off our sweatshirts in the afternoon. The high temperatures are usually around the mid to high 60’s to low 70’s. My kids even swam in the pools, but it was still too cold to get me in there!

I also like visiting in January because the crowd levels are usually pretty low. The exception to this is around Martin Luther King Day. The parks can be quite busy around this time, as families take advantage of that extra day they have off school and/or work.

Also keep in mind that during this off-peak season the parks are not open quite as long as they are in the summertime. I do not have a problem with this, as since the parks are less busy we can do a lot more in a shorter amount of time without having to wait as long. There are also usually some rides that are down for refurbishment at this time, but there are still many things open and ready for you and your daughter to make some magical memories!

If you do decide that January may not be the right time for your family to visit, you can still celebrate your daughter’s birthday during a warmer month. We took my son for his 10th birthday in May when his actual birthday was during Easter Break in April. I don’t like visiting when the Parks are crowded, so we didn’t want to visit at that time. My son didn’t seem to mind one bit, and he wore his birthday button proudly – even though it was really his ‘un-birthday’!

    Have a magical day, Jennifer!

Meet the Panelist: Rachel, Wisconsin

Hi, I’m Rachel! I am a “boy mom” to two rowdy little men at home and married to my high school sweetheart. I am fortunate enough that my prince charming loves all things Disney just as much as I do! For me, planning a trip to Walt Disney World can be just as magical as being there. It brings our family together as we dream, plan, and count down the days. I would be honored to help plan your visit and share in your family’s very own magic! Learn More About Rachel
