We are wanting to use a Disney Gift Card to stay on budget in the parks. However, my local retailers only offer digital cards. Can we get the balance on a physical card when we arrive? Or can all Disney retailers and dining scan the barcode in the email?

    Hi Ally!

We love using Disney Gift Cards on our vacations at Walt Disney World!  We ask for them for any gift-giving holiday or birthdays since we know we will always use them.  I also purchase them from local stores to help save up for a trip.

Disney retailers and restaurants can use the barcode in the email, but when I did this with a digital card I purchased online through Target, I found that quite a few Cast Members didn't know how and had to ask for help.  My suggestion is purchasing one physical card and transferring your digital cards to the physical one.  You can purchase Disney Gift Cards online with a minimum activation amount of  $25 and free shipping plus you can pick from tons of adorable card designs or you can purchase a Disney Gift Card at Walt Disney World with a minimum activation amount of $15.  You can transfer as many digital cards as you have, up to $1000 on each physical card, so if you have more than $1000 worth, you'll need to purchase a second physical card.

To transfer gift card balances, head to Disney Gift Card online.  Register the physical card you'll be using and then click on "Transfer Balance" to transfer your digital cards.  You can also easily login to your account at any time to check your remaining balance.

Please stop back by if you have any additional vacation planning questions.

    Have a magical day!
