Can you have a walking cane in the theme parks?

    Hi Becky,

Thank you for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

Yes, canes are permitted in the Walt Disney World theme parks. My Dad toured all four parks with his trusty cane last year, and he was so glad he brought it. You should even be able to bring it with you on most attractions, though that is up to the discretion of the Cast Members in the attraction’s loading area. If you must (or prefer to) leave your cane while you ride, the Cast Member will leave it in the same area where wheelchairs are parked and it will be waiting for you when you disembark. I suggest labeling your cane with your name and phone number just in case, and maybe even putting some colorful tape around it so you can spot it more easily.

Becky, here’s a list of services for guests with mobility disabilities. This might come in handy as you wonder about procedures for different rides and transportation options, or if you decide to use an ECV or scooter during your park trip. Note the parking for guests with mobility disabilities information at the very bottom of the page, too. Another amazing resource is the park-by-park guide for Guests with disabilities located on Disney's Guest Services website.

When we visit with my cane-using Dad, we make sure to stop periodically and enjoy a rest, a Disney treat, and some people watching. Disney parks trips involve lots of walking, and rests are a must for tired legs and feet! My daughter and her Grandpa have made many wonderful memories sitting on Disney benches and taking in all the wonderful sights, smells, and sounds of our happy place.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
