We will be visiting WDW in June and would like to dine at The California Grill,do you think my 9 yr old son will like it?

The California Grill is one of the nicer restaurants at WDW. With it's "business casual" dress code, there is a level of formality here that you won't find in the restaurants in the theme parks. It is also one of my children's favorite restaurants at Disney World.

While California Grill is a "fancy" restaurant, they do serve children every day. They treated my girls with kindness and respect. There are many child-friendly items on the menu. So, in addition to the regular children's menu, my girls also loved the pizza-style flatbreads that were part of the appetizer list. Also, since there is a full-service kitchen here, the chefs can do some tweaking of a dish to make it more appealing to your child. For example, they would be happy to accommodate a request to leave the sauce off a dish. If you would like to take a look at the menu, go to www.allearsnet.com and click on the "search" button. Type "California Grill" and hit enter. Bear in mind that the chefs do tinker with the menus from time to time, but the information you find at allearsnet will give you a good feel for the menu selections.

One of the biggest selling points of the California Grill for children (and adults) is the view. You have a lovely view of the Magic Kingdom here. Also, if you time it correctly, you can see the fireworks from the restaurant. To make the experience even more magical, they dim the lights and pipe the fireworks music into the restaurant.

Another thing to consider when planning a trip to the California Grill is the length of a meal. The service is fabulous, but if you're going to want to have a drink, appetizer, entree, and dessert, then you should know that you'll be sitting for a while. You could bring a book or handheld game for your son if you think this might be an issue for him. Also, for practice, you might take him to a "white-tablecloth" restaurant in your hometown. If he does well there, then I'm sure he'll be fine at the California Grill.
