Hi Moms! We are visiting May 23-28th 2012. We are a family of 5 (2 adults, 6, 7 & 2 year old). I was wondering what the weather is typically like then and how crowded the parks usually are. Are there better days to tour different parks?

Hi Michelle! May is a great month to visit Walt Disney World! The weather is usually sunny and warm and the attendance levels in the parks are fairly low for much of the month. Holidays, however, tend to see a spike in crowds at the Disney parks, and since you're visiting over Memorial Day Weekend, attendance levels in the parks will likely be high. The first few days of your trip will be less crowded than the later days, which coincide with the holiday weekend. For that reason, I'd recommend you visit the Magic Kingdom on May 23, which should be the least crowded day of your trip.  If you're staying at a Disney resort, you may want to plan to visit the park that's hosting Extra Magic Hours for resort guests each day. Those hours reserved just for resort guests allow you to experience lots of attractions with less waiting. If you're not a Disney resort guest, it's a good strategy to avoid the park hosting those hours, since they can become more crowded.

I like to check out the Crowd Calendar on the unofficial website,, which recommends the least crowded park during each day of your vacation based on historical data, special events, Extra Magic Hours, and other factors. During your vacation dates, that site recommends the following parks:
May 23 Magic Kingdom or Epcot
May 24 Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom
    May 25 Animal Kingdom
    May 26 Epcot
    May 27 Epcot
    May 28 Epcot

No matter what park you choose to visit, you'll beat the crowds if you arrive before the park opens, use the Fast Pass to cut your time waiting in lines, and make reservations for your dining so you're not wandering around trying to find a restaurant with an open table when you're hungry. Pack shorts and t-shirts with a few sweaters; daytime temperatures average 90 degrees, with evening lows in the 60s.

Have a magical May vacation! Come visit us again at the Moms Panel if you have more questions! We're always happy to help!
