We're visiting in june/july on the deluxe dining plan, what is considered an appetizer/entree for places like tokyo dining, kona cafe and california grill? We love sushi but just not sure what is considered what at these places?

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Samantha!

The Disney Dining Plan is a Disney food lovers dream come true, and it is a convenient way to experience many of the unique Disney dining locations found across the Walt Disney World Resort. The good news is that since you're on the Deluxe Dining Plan, sushi is typically included with your meal as an appetizer. There be some exceptions, so I recommend asking your server for clarification when you're seated. I recently treated myself to California Grill's Angry Dragon Roll after I ran the Disney Princess Half Marathon, and let me tell you it was worth running all those magical miles! In general, the Artisanal Hand-formed Pizzas, Hand-rolled Sushi, and anything from the Soup, Salads, and Appetizers sections are fair game for starters here. At Kona Cafe, it is my understanding that the Sushi Rolls can be ordered as an appetizer as well.

I was able to speak to a manager at Toyko Dining, and since the Mitsukoshi company owns this EPCOT restaurant, their policy differs slightly. Here, you can order any of their signature appetizers like the highly recommended Sesame and Chili Edamame or Spicy Tempura Calamari. Unfortunately, the Nigiri Sushi is not included on the Deluxe Dining Plan. If you'd like to have sushi, you can have one item from the Specialty Rolls or two choices from the Classic Rolls section, but it must be ordered as your entrée. After dinner, spend some time wandering around the fabulous Mitsukoshi Department Store. They have an assortment of authentic Japanese merchandise, but my favorite thing to do it watch the "Pick a Pearl" ceremony!

I hope this gives you some food for thought! Sayonara, Samantha!

Hi, I'm Eean from Pennsylvania!  I may have an unusual name, but my passion for Disney is not unique.  It’s amazing how many people you can find who love talking about, "The Most Magical Place On Earth!"  I'm that mom who always has her ears perked at PTO meetings, in the grocery store aisle, or at middle school basketball games waiting for an opportunity to give someone a planning tip to help make their vacation even more magical.
