Visiting in June and staying off site on Int'l Drive. When visit MK, have a lunch ADR at 1:05 and Harmony barbershop at 2:30. Trying to decide if we should go back to hotel to rest longer and come back, or take a boat to Wilderness lodge. Kids are 7&1

    Hi Lisa,

I know lots of people who always return to the hotel for an afternoon rest, but I've never been one of them. I would rather have a nice table service lunch like you have planned and find a quiet spot to unwind for a while, if necessary.

Especially if you are off-property, I find the return to the car and the trip back to the hotel more hassle than restful. But that's me, and my children were never big nappers and were able to sleep in the stroller if they needed to recharge. Obviously, your children's needs may be different and you'll want to take that into consideration.

I think leaving the park for a little while and traveling to one of the nearby resorts is a good way to chill out without the long trip back to your hotel. You can take the monorail from Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian.

The Polynesian is the only place outside the Magic Kingdom to get a Dole Whip, which is my favorite treat. We like to get our ice cream and sit outside near the pool or the beach. Our kids have always liked to explore the different gift shops at the hotels, and we occasionally just find a sofa at the Grand Floridian and sit.

You can also take a water taxi from Magic Kingdom to Wilderness Lodge or Fort Wilderness. At Wilderness Lodge, you can ask at the front desk for the free sheet that leads you on a scavenger hunt for hidden Mickeys. At Fort Wilderness, you can check out the pony rides, playground and nature trails.

If you don't wan to leave the park, there are several attractions where you can get out of the heat and recharge while you enjoy the experience, including the Hall of Presidents, Tomorrowland Transit Authority, it's a small world, Mickey's PhilharMagic and the Carousel of Progress.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions. Enjoy your time with your family!
