Hi! Visiting DW for the first time April 23-27. We are staying at FW cabin with our 4 children ages 11,10,7,2. Thinking we would like to extend our vacation and stay at another resort and just enjoy ammenities such as a great pool. Suggestions?

    Kacy:

Congratulations on your first trip to Disney!

I am a big fan of Fort Wilderness and our family opts to stay there on most of our visits to WDW....You may not be aware of this, but the large pool at the fort is under a rehab as I type. It is scheduled to open around March 20 with a themed slide, a hot tub, and a children's play area. (Schedules can change, though.) If you're planning to visit the parks for your first four days and then enjoy a pool, I'd relax and stay right where you are!

The fort also houses many other amenities like the campfire sing-a-long and movie every night, the horse stables, bike rentals and watercraft rentals. A quick hop on the water ferry takes you to the Magic Kingdom and the monorail, too!

If you're not convinced, the pools at the Boardwalk, Beach Club, and Wilderness Lodge are well-themed. Keep in mind, though, that you would need to accommodate your larger family and these are deluxe accommodations which will be a step up in price. Your family could "qualify" for a trundle-bed room at Port Orleans--which has a good pool and is a moderate resort--but if I was in your shoes, I'd have a hard time going from the spacious cabins to a just a room...

    Wishing you a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
