Hi we're visiting DL in August and I know the crowds will be huge! I'm trying to work out if using EMH (I've read the queues are bad later in the day) OR making a breakfast reservation at a park without EMH is best?

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Michelle!

I am so glad that you’ve asked about Extra Magic Hour as it’s one of my favorite topics! Extra Magic Hour is a perk for Guests staying at the three Disneyland Resort Hotels. It allows you to enter Disneyland Park one hour early on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and Disney California Adventure Park (exclusive to Disneyland Resort Hotel Guests) one hour early on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. If you aren’t staying on-site but have a three-day or longer park ticket, then you have access to one Magic Morning at Disneyland Park.

In my opinion, Extra Magic Hour is absolutely invaluable and the best strategy to use to do the most with the least amount of waiting. We usually arrive at the gates 20-30 minutes before the start of Extra Magic Hour so we are one of the first people into the park. Most days, we can ride 4-5 attractions before the park opens for general admission. I don’t typically like to book breakfast reservations because utilizing these early hours to ride attractions has always turned out to be the best use of our time. The crowds and temperatures are low and it’s just a really great time to experience the parks.

To further maximize your time, consider adding Disney MaxPass to your tickets. Selecting FASTPASSES from your mobile device from anywhere in the parks is a huge time-saver! Plus, you can usually grab your first FASTPASS once you enter the parks for Extra Magic Hour. The return time will generally be after the park opens for general admission, but you’ll be one step ahead of the other Guests.

I hope this helps. Please return to the Disney Parks Moms Panel with any other questions you may have!
