    Jodi from AZ Asked

We are visiting Disneyworld in August and were wondering how hot and uncomfortable it is during August. Also, how likely is a hurrican?

    Hi Jodi,

Sorry to have to be the one to break this to you, but chances are it will be hot in August. Most likely it will be very hot and humid as August is typically the hottest month of the year in Florida, with daily highs in the mid 90's. Great news though, as Disney World knows this and goes to great lengths to help keep their guests cool. The majority of the attractions are inside air conditioned spaces and have covered or air conditioned queues. There are numerous locations that you can go to for a retreat from the heat and the resort pools are a great place to escape from the afternoon heat. Consider spending the majority of your time in the parks in the morning or late evenings when the sun is not as hot and be sure to drink plenty of water and re-apply sunscreen.

Now on the topic of hurricanes, I wish I could tell you what to expect, but unfortunately I can't. The Florida hurricane season runs from beginning of June until late October. The later you go into the season, the greater the chance of a hurricane as the water has had a chance to warm thru the summer months. I can tell you that the Disney World area is a good deal inland from the water and therefore the chances of a hurricane seriously impacting that area are considerably lower. To my knowledge there has only been one hurricane season to cause WDW to close for around 48 hours. We have been at WDW three times with an approaching hurricane, and while it rained quite a bit, we threw on our rain ponchos and had a great time. The parks were less crowded and we were able to enjoy almost everything we wanted to. I think you will find the chances that a hurricane will effect your trip to be minimal and it is not something we worry about when planning our trips.

Hope you have an amazing, and cool, trip!
