Visiting Disney world Jan 17-20 and will need to rent a scooter. I only need it in the parks, but am concerned because they can't be reserved. What's the lucklihood of them being 'sold out?' no way I can get by with crutches alone.

Hey, Katie! Thank you so much for stopping by to discuss your predicament with us. I absolutely understand your worry - just a few days before I began a quick vacation with my sister this past summer, I fell and injured my ankle. Being in a cast and on crutches while trying to cover four theme parks during the summer heat is not an ideal situation! I quickly began looking into EVC/scooter rentals at the parks and discovered that there was a limited supply. Since we were planning to park hop each day, I feared there would be no rentals at our second park upon arrival. As it turned out, my fear was for a good reason because I saw "no availability" signs at the ECV rental counter during one of our three days.

Katie, if you do arrive at one of the theme parks and discover that there is not an ECV available, the Cast Members can take your name and phone number and will call you as soon as one becomes available. In the meantime, there are usually wheelchairs for use. Another option would be to call one of the reliable Orlando-area mobility product rental companies. They should be able to set something up with you to get you quickly riding in style. This past summer, I went ahead and booked a reservation with Buena Vista Scooters, who actually has a rental area set up outside Disney's BoardWalk Inn, so I wouldn't have to worry about availability. They deliver ECVs to all Disney resorts and many surrounding hotels, so be sure to check with them if you want to be assured of having that convenient ride.

Katie, I hope you have a great time during your trip, even with those ol' crutches! Remember to take a break often, and if that means making someone go get you an extra Dole Whip, then take advantage of it!
