We are visiting Disney for the first time with our children for the 4th of July. Do you have any advice you could give me?

    Hi Lauren,

Walt Disney World is crowded for July 4th! Everyone wants to be at the Walt Disney World Resorts to celebrate our nation's birthday!

First, stick to your children's schedule. If they are not early risers, do not have them out the door everyday for rope drop. If they go to bed early, have them back to the resort most nights around their bed time. My children have always liked to be up early and to bed early. Even this past December, we were at the parks by 9 and leaving them around 9 as well and my girls are 19 and 17. Of course, a few nights we stayed out late.

Also, book your FastPass+ selections in the afternoon especially if you will be at the parks early. This will help reduce standing in line for the popular rides in the heat.

Make Advance Dining Reservations for your dinners. This is a great way to assess if you can continue on for the evening. It also guarantees you a meal in an air conditioned restaurant which will be nice in the summer. Look at restaurants near the park you are touring to get away from the crowds.

Plan downtime for your children. Enjoy the pool or even the water parks. Keep cool and hydrate. Bring snacks and water into the parks.

Finally, do not plan to see it all. If you children know about the trip, have them each pick two or three things they want to do at each park. Commit to making these happen and the rest is sprinkles on an ice cream sundae.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
