Visiting with 2 boys 4 and 6 in Spring '11. I have been looking at the restaurant menus and it doesn't look like kid friendly menus at the Castle and a lot of places. Unfortunately they don't eat a variety. Would dining plan be feasible for picky eaters?

Hi Julie! I'm the mom of a picky son too, so I understand your concern. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to find, however, that the restaurants at Walt Disney World are very kid-friendly. Every restaurant has a children's menu, most of which contain the standard kids' food staples, such as pizza, pasta, and chicken nuggets. The menus that you'll find on the Disney website are generally the adult menus -- check out the Dining section of an unofficial site like www.allears.net or www.wdwinfo.com for copies of the kids' menus for the restaurants.  The children's menu at Cinderella's Royal Table in the castle offers mini hot dogs, chicken tenders, and Beefy Macaroni. If those options don't appeal to your sons, you may want to consider one of the character buffets instead, where they'll have more variety from which to choose.

At some restaurants, such as 'Ohana, kids eat the same food as the adults. However, you can request more traditional kids' fare, such as a grilled cheese sandwich or a hot dog. (The only restaurant at which my picky son hasn't been able to order his preferred grilled cheese sandwich or cheese pizza is Teppan Edo, where kids eat smaller versions of the adult menu's Japanese food cooked hibachi-style.)

The Dining Plan costs approximately $12-$13 per day for a child, which entitles the child to one table-service meal, one counter service meal, and one snack per day.  When you consider that one child's meal at a buffet often costs more than that, I think the Dining Plan works out to be quite a value for kids.
