Hi - we visited D'land in Jan 2012 for 4 days and are planning WDW for 2 wks in Dec 2013 - do you think we'll need 2 wks or will 9-10 days be enough? Our girls will be 10&12 by this time. Coming from Aust we want to make the most of our time!

    Hi Jennette,

If this is your first visit to Walt Disney World, you could easily fill two weeks with all the activities that are available across this vast vacation destination.  It is much bigger than Disneyland.

In addition to spending at least five days in the Walt Disney World theme parks (dedicating two days to Epcot and one day to each of the other main theme parks), you'll want to set aside your day of arrival for rest.  Adjusting to the time difference takes some time.  It is important that you don't start out your vacation fatigued.

You'll also want to spend one day exploring Downtown Disney.  This shopping and dining area is immense.  Around the holidays you'll also want to carve out time to visit the incomparable decorations at the Disney resorts around property.  Spend one day visiting the resorts in the Magic Kingdom area of Walt Disney World.  Then plan a second day visiting those throughout the rest of the "world."  You may even want to spend a day golfing, playing tennis, or enjoying any number of fun tours available to Disney resort guests.  Your girls may want to take advantage of the educational opportunities offered by the Disney Youth Education Series.  (You don't need to be part of a school group to participate in these programs).  Who says a wonderful vacation can't be educational?

While you could certainly sample an amazing array of activities at Walt Disney World in ten days, I highly encourage you to take your time and spread your trip out over the full two weeks.  That will give you all the more time to savor each magical experience.

Let us know, Jennette, if you need any additional advice as you plan your December 2013 trip.
