We are using Disney's Magical Express to get to our resort next month. Since we will have no personal transportation, what happens if my kids get sick and need to go to a doctor? We won't have car seats. Is there a clinic or doctor on property?

Hi Mary! Thank you for stopping by with a fantastic question, one that I have personal experience with!

Just imagine, you save, and plan, and save some more, and the day comes and you arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort! You and your family are celebrating and everyone can’t wait to meet Mickey Mouse and take a spin on Dumbo the Flying Elephant, when WHAM…little Johnny has a fever and complains that his belly hurts. (Little Johnny is my son and well, let’s just say I’ve been there…with him and his sister on two separate trips.)

First thing assess your situation, is it something mild like the sniffles and a low fever, or is it something a bit more moderate that you would consider taking your child to see a doctor for. If you feel like your child may need to see a physician, first call your OWN pediatrician. They know your child best and based on the symptoms that your child is exhibiting they can make a recommendation. If the decision is to have your child seen, my next call would be to your resort’s front desk. They have plenty of experience dealing with these types of issues and are always more than willing to help you with First Aid needs. Since you don’t have a car, they can even help you to arrange safe transportation, or to obtain a doctor who will actually come right to your resort hotel.

With that being said, if you have a severe issues such as difficulty breathing, an allergic reaction, wheezing, persistent vomiting, etc., get help right away by calling 911 or if it isn’t life threatening call the front desk.

I now always travel with a thermometer, Motrin, and  Pedialyte Powder Packs. Also don’t forget the basics and the most important part of protecting yourself from illness…hand washing!
I hope that you have a healthy and wonderful family vacation!
